Stop the (bed)Rot
Game Design
Stop the (bed)Rot is a point-and-click conversation simulator and puzzle game built in Python. The player is tasked with convincing someone to stop bedrotting (a relatively new behaviour prevalent among young people who spend excessive time in bed). The game is designed to be something to do while in this state, providing empathy, support and alternative coping mechanisms through puzzles which allow you to create activities for the character. The in-game digital clock tracks the real-world time spent playing and will encourage you to take breaks at certain thresholds. The font, UI and images used in the game were all hand-drawn specifically for this project.
Set in the autumn of 2012, you are a Guardian Angel who has just received your first assignment: to help the troublesome Riley Bonnet. Riley is a chronic bedrotter who has fallen into depression following the breakdown of their relationship with best friend Sid. Your superior has expressed concern and presented you with an ultimatum: you have one week to motivate Riley to adopt a new lifestyle, or you both risk being removed from the program entirely.
